TB-500 is a synthetic heptapeptide with the sequence Ac-LKKTETQ. It corresponds to a short N-terminal region of thymosin beta-4, a 43-amino-acid protein found in many cell types. The fragment contains an actin-binding motif, which is one reason it appears in laboratory studies of cell migration and cytoskeletal dynamics. TB-500 is not the full-length protein and is produced as a research chemical rather than an approved therapeutic agent. Its molecular weight is approximately 889 Da.
Several names appear in scientific and commercial contexts for this peptide. The label TB-500 is informal and does not follow standard biochemical nomenclature. Research articles more often describe the compound as a thymosin beta-4 fragment, Tβ4 fragment, or by its sequence Ac-LKKTETQ. Confusing TB-500 with full-length thymosin beta-4 can lead to incorrect assumptions about activity because the fragment lacks the remaining residues of the parent protein. The relationship between fragment and parent protein remains an active area of study.
Lyophilised material is stable for extended periods when kept dry and cold, and suppliers typically recommend storage well below freezing. Once dissolved, the peptide is handled at refrigeration temperatures and used within a short period, because peptide bonds and the acetylated terminus can be affected by repeated freeze-thaw cycles, proteases, or extreme pH. Bacteriostatic water and saline are both described as solvents, although preservatives can interfere with some analytical workflows. Reconstituted solutions are inspected for particulates before use.
Sports authorities classify the peptide as a prohibited substance, and it appears on the World Anti-Doping Agency list under peptide hormones, growth factors, and related substances. Racing jurisdictions for horses and dogs have issued separate restrictions, and several national bodies treat it as a controlled or prescription-only item. As a research chemical it is sold without a therapeutic indication, and labels usually state that the product is not for human or veterinary use. Regulatory treatment therefore varies by country.

Identity and purity are usually assessed by reversed-phase high-performance liquid chromatography together with mass spectrometry. The chromatogram provides a purity estimate as a percentage of total peak area, while the mass spectrum confirms that the observed mass matches the expected value. Amino acid analysis or tandem mass spectrometry sequencing can provide additional confirmation. Reported purity figures depend on the column, gradient, and detection wavelength, so values from different laboratories are not directly comparable without method details.
Lyophilised peptide is normally reconstituted with sterile water or a neutral buffer shortly before use. Because repeated freeze-thaw cycles can degrade the material, dividing a reconstituted solution into single-use aliquots is a common practice. Working solutions are usually kept cold and protected from light. The exact shelf life depends on concentration, buffer composition, and handling, so it is often determined empirically rather than assumed.
Peptide bonds are susceptible to hydrolysis under extreme pH and to enzymatic cleavage if proteases are present. Heat, oxidising agents, and prolonged exposure to light also contribute to loss of material. Aggregation can occur at high concentrations or in certain buffer systems, and it may not be visible to the eye. Storage at -20 C or below is typical for both powder and aliquoted solutions, and desiccation of the powder is preferred.
Thymosin beta-4 is a naturally occurring protein of 43 amino acids found in most mammalian cells, where it binds actin monomers and influences filament dynamics. It was first isolated from thymus tissue in the early 1980s, and its actin-binding activity was later mapped to a short region near the N-terminus. The synthetic fragment sold as TB-500 was designed to reproduce that region rather than the full protein. Whether a short fragment reproduces the behavior of the intact molecule remains an open question, since the parent protein carries additional structural elements outside the binding region.
Published research on the intact protein is substantial, covering actin regulation, cell migration, and wound models. Research using the heptapeptide fragment specifically is far smaller, and much of the circulating material originates in supplier documentation rather than peer-reviewed reports. Where fragment studies do exist, they often employ different sequences, chain lengths, or terminal modifications, which complicates direct comparison across papers. Readers encountering claims about TB-500 should therefore separate evidence about thymosin beta-4 from evidence about the fragment itself.

In particular, the journal highlights important discoveries in immunization and vaccine research, such as the development and evaluation of vaccines, human and animal immune responses to vaccines, vaccine vectors, adjuvants and immunomodulators, quantitative assays of vaccine efficacy, and clinical trials. The journal publishes primary research articles, editorials, commentaries, minireviews, and case reports. Articles are freely accessible after six months (delayed open access). Through its "Global Outreach Program", free online access is available to qualified microbiologists in eligible developing countries.
== Novel antidepressant == Arketamine appears to be more effective as a rapid-acting antidepressant than esketamine in preclinical research. In rodent studies, esketamine produced hyperlocomotion, prepulse inhibition deficits, and rewarding effects, while arketamine did not, in accordance with its lower potency as an NMDA receptor antagonist and dopamine reuptake inhibitor. As such, arketamine may have a lower propensity for producing psychotomimetic effects and a lower abuse potential in addition to superior antidepressant efficacy. A study conducted in mice found that ketamine's antidepressant activity is not caused by ketamine inhibiting NMDAR, but rather by sustained activation of a different glutamate receptor, the AMPA receptor, by a metabolite, (2R,6R)-hydroxynorketamine; as of 2017 it was unknown if this was happening in humans. Arketamine is an AMPA receptor agonist. Paradoxically, arketamine shows greater and longer-lasting rapid antidepressant effects in animal models of depression relative to esketamine. It has been suggested that this may be due to the possibility of different activities of arketamine and esketamine and their respective metabolites at the α7-nicotinic receptor, as norketamine and hydroxynorketamine are potent antagonists of this receptor and markers of potential rapid antidepressant effects (specifically, increased mammalian target of rapamycin function) correlate closely with their affinity for it. The picture is unclear however, and other mechanisms have also been implicated.
In accordance, second-generation NSAAs like enzalutamide and apalutamide, which have 5- to 10-fold higher affinity for the AR than bicalutamide, have been found to be more effective than bicalutamide in the treatment of prostate cancer. However, in the TERRAIN and STRIVE trials, which compared bicalutamide and enzalutamide as a component of CAB and found that enzalutamide extended life by 3 to 4 times as much time as bicalutamide, the dosage of enzalutamide used (160 mg) was over 3 times that of the dosage of bicalutamide used (50 mg). As a result, it has been suggested that the 50 mg/day dosage of bicalutamide used in this study and in CAB in general may be suboptimal. This is in accordance with clinical findings that PSA decreases with CAB using bicalutamide plateau at a dosage of bicalutamide of 150 to 200 mg/day. In women, total testosterone levels are 20-fold and free testosterone levels 40-fold lower relative to men. In addition, whereas bicalutamide monotherapy can increase testosterone levels by up to 2-fold in men, the medication does not increase testosterone levels in women. For these reasons, much lower dosages of bicalutamide (e.g., 25 mg/day in the hirsutism studies) may be used in women with significant antiandrogenic effectiveness.
== Classification and composition == The meteorite belongs to the CM group of carbonaceous chondrites. Like most CM chondrites, Murchison is petrologic type 2, which means that it experienced extensive alteration by water-rich fluids on its parent body before falling to Earth. CM chondrites, together with the CI group, are rich in carbon and are among the most chemically primitive meteorites. Like other CM chondrites, Murchison contains abundant calcium-aluminium-rich inclusions. More than 15 amino acids, some of the basic components of life, have been identified during multiple studies of this meteorite.

Like agonists, inverse agonists have their own unique ways of inducing pharmacological and physiological responses depending on many factors, such as the type of inverse agonist, the type of receptor, mutants of receptors, binding affinities and whether the effects are exerted acutely or chronically based on receptor population density. Because of this, they exhibit a spectrum of activity below the Intrinsic activity level. Changes in constitutive activity of receptors affect response levels from ligands like inverse agonists. To illustrate, mechanistic models have been made for how inverse agonists induce their responses on G protein-coupled receptors (GPCRs). Many types of Inverse agonists for GPCRs have been shown to exhibit the following conventionally accepted mechanism. Based on the Extended Ternary complex model, the mechanism contends that inverse agonists switch the receptor from an active state to an inactive state by undergoing conformational changes. Under this model, current thinking is that the GPCRs can exist in a continuum of active and inactive states when no ligand is present. Inverse agonists stabilize the inactive states, thereby suppressing agonist-independent activity. However, the implementation of 'constitutively active mutants' of GPCRs change their intrinsic activity. Thus, the effect an inverse agonist has on a receptor depends on the basal activity of the receptor, assuming the inverse agonist has the same binding affinity (as shown in the figure 2).
The largest man-made sources of carbonyl sulfide release include its primary use as a chemical intermediate and as a byproduct of carbon disulfide production; however, it is also released from automobiles and their tire wear, coal-fired power plants, coking ovens, biomass combustion, fish processing, combustion of refuse and plastics, petroleum manufacture, and manufacture of synthetic fibers, starch, and rubber. The average total worldwide release of carbonyl sulfide to the atmosphere has been estimated at about 3 million tons per year, of which less than one third was related to human activity. It is also a significant sulfur-containing impurity in many fuel gases such as synthesis gas, which are produced from sulfur-containing feedstocks. Carbonyl sulfide is present in foodstuffs, such as cheese and prepared vegetables of the cabbage family. Traces of COS are naturally present in grains and seeds in the range of 0.05–0.1 mg/kg. Carbonyl sulfide has been observed in the interstellar medium (see also List of molecules in interstellar space), in comet 67P and in the atmosphere of Venus, where, because of the difficulty of producing COS inorganically, it is considered a possible indicator of life.
Prior to the outbreak of the First World War, the strength of the British Indian Army was 215,000. Either in 1914 or before, a ninth division had been formed, the 9th (Secunderabad) Division. By November 1918, the Indian Army rose in size to 573,000 men. Before the war, the Indian government had decided that India could afford to provide two infantry divisions and a cavalry brigade in the event of a European war. Some 140,000 soldiers saw active service on the Western Front in France and Belgium – 90,000 in the front-line Indian Corps, and some 50,000 in auxiliary battalions. They felt that any more would jeopardise national security. More than four divisions were eventually sent as Indian Expeditionary Force A formed the Indian Corps and the Indian Cavalry Corps that arrived on the Western Front in 1914. The high number of officer casualties the corps suffered early on had an effect on its later performance. British officers that understood the language, customs, and psychology of their men could not be quickly replaced, and the alien environment of the Western Front had some effect on the soldiers. However, the feared unrest in India never happened, and while the Indian Corps was transferred to the Middle East in 1915 India provided many more divisions for active service during the course of the war. Indians' first engagement was on the Western Front within a month of the start of the war, at the First Battle of Ypres.
D. melanogaster was among the first organisms used for genetic analysis, and today it is one of the most widely used and genetically best-known of all eukaryotic organisms. All organisms use common genetic systems; therefore, comprehending processes such as transcription and replication in fruit flies helps in understanding these processes in other eukaryotes, including humans. Thomas Hunt Morgan began using fruit flies in experimental studies of heredity at Columbia University in 1910 in a laboratory known as the Fly Room. The Fly Room was cramped with eight desks, each occupied by students and their experiments. They started off experiments using milk bottles to rear the fruit flies and handheld lenses for observing their traits. The lenses were later replaced by microscopes, which enhanced their observations. Morgan and his students eventually elucidated many basic principles of heredity, including sex-linked inheritance, epistasis, multiple alleles, and gene mapping. D. melanogaster had historically been used in laboratories to study genetics and patterns of inheritance. However, D. melanogaster also has importance in environmental mutagenesis research, allowing researchers to study the effects of specific environmental mutagens.

Unlike spectroscopic methods, X-ray crystallography always allows for unambiguous structure determination and provides precise bond angles and lengths totally unavailable through spectroscopy. It is often used in physical organic chemistry to provide an absolute molecular configuration and is an important tool in improving the synthesis of a pure enantiomeric substance. It is also the only way to identify the position and bonding of elements that lack an NMR active nucleus such as oxygen. Indeed, before x-ray structural determination methods were made available in the early 20th century all organic structures were entirely conjectural: tetrahedral carbon, for example, was only confirmed by the crystal structure of diamond, and the delocalized structure of benzene was confirmed by the crystal structure of hexamethylbenzene. While crystallography provides organic chemists with highly satisfying data, it is not an everyday technique in organic chemistry because a perfect single crystal of a target compound must be grown. Only complex molecules, for which NMR data cannot be unambiguously interpreted, require this technique. In the example below, the structure of the host–guest complex would have been quite difficult to solve without a single crystal structure: there are no protons on the fullerene, and with no covalent bonds between the two halves of the organic complex spectroscopy alone was unable to prove the hypothesized structure.
Meloxicam, sold under the brand name Mobic among others, is a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) used to treat pain and inflammation in rheumatic diseases and osteoarthritis. It is taken by mouth or given by injection into a vein. It is recommended that it be used for as short a period as possible and at a low dose. Common side effects include abdominal pain, dizziness, swelling, headache, and a rash. Serious side effects may include heart disease, stroke, kidney problems, and stomach ulcers. Use is not recommended in the third trimester of pregnancy. It blocks cyclooxygenase-2 (COX-2) more than it blocks cyclooxygenase-1 (COX-1). It is in the oxicam family of chemicals and is closely related to piroxicam. It is available as a generic medication. In 2023, it was the 27th most commonly prescribed medication in the United States, with more than 20 million prescriptions. An intravenous version of meloxicam (Anjeso) was approved for medical use in the United States in February 2020. Meloxicam is available in combination with bupivacaine as bupivacaine/meloxicam and in combination with rizatriptan as meloxicam/rizatriptan.

=== Assembly === Ribosomal RNA's integration and assembly into ribosomes begins with their folding, modification, processing and assembly with ribosomal proteins to form the two ribosomal subunits, the LSU and the SSU. In Prokaryotes, rRNA incorporation occurs in the cytoplasm due to the lack of membrane-bound organelles. In Eukaryotes, however, this process primarily takes place in the nucleolus and is initiated by the synthesis of pre-RNA. This requires the presence of all three RNA polymerases. In fact, the transcription of pre-RNA by RNA polymerase I accounts for about 60% of cell's total cellular RNA transcription. This is followed by the folding of the pre-RNA so that it can be assembled with ribosomal proteins. This folding is catalyzed by endo- and exonucleases, RNA helicases, GTPases and ATPases. The rRNA subsequently undergoes endo- and exonucleolytic processing to remove external and internal transcribed spacers. The pre-RNA then undergoes modifications such as methylation or pseudouridinylation before ribosome assembly factors and ribosomal proteins assemble with the pre-RNA to form pre-ribosomal particles. Upon going under more maturation steps and subsequent exit from the nucleolus into the cytoplasm, these particles combine to form the ribosomes. The basic and aromatic residues found within the primary structure of rRNA allow for favorable stacking interactions and attraction to ribosomal proteins, creating a cross-linking effect between the backbone of rRNA and other components of the ribosomal unit.

TB-500 is a synthetic heptapeptide corresponding to a fragment of thymosin beta-4. It is used in laboratory research and is not an approved drug.
No. Thymosin beta-4 is a 43-amino-acid protein, while TB-500 represents only a short N-terminal segment. The two should not be treated as interchangeable in experimental design.
It is often called a thymosin beta-4 fragment, Tβ4 fragment, or Ac-LKKTETQ. The name TB-500 is mainly a commercial or catalog label rather than a formal chemical name.
The most common approach is liquid chromatography with tandem mass spectrometry after extraction from blood or urine. Immunoassays exist but are generally treated as screening tools because of cross-reactivity.
